Apple Card on iPhone — Beacon Budget v0.20.0
This update adds support for connecting Apple Card, Apple Cash, and Apple Savings on iPhone, along with a few other improvements.
✨ Features
-
Apple Card, Apple Cash, and Apple Savings (iPhone only). On an iPhone running iOS 17.4 or later in the US, go to Add Account and tap the Apple Card & Cash tile, or search for "apple" or "wallet." Plaid requests access to your Wallet and reads the accounts from that iPhone. All three accounts come through one connection. Apple Cash comes in as checking, so it counts toward Free to Spend. Apple Savings comes in as savings, and you can change either account type like any other account. Balances and transactions are available across every device on your budget.
-
How Apple accounts stay up to date. New Apple activity reaches Beacon when the person who connected the accounts opens Beacon on that iPhone, whether launching the app, returning to it, or pulling to refresh. Beacon checks at most once every 15 minutes. Apple connections have no refresh button, never use refresh credits, and won't be flagged as broken just because they haven't updated recently. Anyone sharing the budget on Android or web sees Apple activity as of the last time the owner opened Beacon on their iPhone. Only the person who connected the accounts can reconnect them.
-
Card payments show the payoff bucket. When Beacon matches both sides of a credit card payment, the checking withdrawal now shows the card's payoff bucket instead of Free to Spend. This is a label only; no money moves. You can still choose a different bucket, and selecting the already-selected bucket won't draw from it again.
-
Choose your launch screen. Go to Settings > System > Launch Screen and choose Home, Buckets, or Activity. Your selection takes effect after you fully close and reopen the app. It's saved to your account, so someone else signing in on the same phone keeps their own preference.
⚡ Improvements
-
Home activity improvements. Recent Activity is grouped by day again, like the Activity page, and its seven-day window includes the entire first day.
-
Transfer access from Home. Transfer is now in the Home app bar, and Home refreshes when a transfer completes.
-
Home layout. Recurring suggestions now appear below Recent Activity and Upcoming Expenses.
-
More compact settings. Settings rows take up less space, so more of each section fits on one screen.
🛠 Bug Fixes
-
Payoff bucket balances stay accurate. Pending credit card charges no longer count twice when they settle, including in cases involving negative bucket balances or bank reconnections. Shared payoff buckets no longer draw twice for one payment.
-
Fixed contribution funding is more accurate. A paycheck arriving on a bucket's due date now counts toward one funding cycle instead of two, preventing Fixed buckets from being underfunded in months like October.
-
Transaction categories stay up to date. A pending transaction that arrives without a category now picks up the bank's category when it posts.
